Richard Reeves reports that Hillary Clinton is going to huddle with her operatives over the weekend to consider whether she ought jump into the 2004 presidential race. She had previously declared that she wouldn't be running before 2008. What I'm wondering is which factor provided more impetus for HRC's reconsideration, President Bush's fall in the polls or Howard Dean's rise? The muckymucks at the DNC, over which the Clintons' have considerable influence, are reportedly worried that while Dean could win the Democratic primary, he'd make a disasterous presidential candidate because he's too liberal. But it seems equally plausible that the real concern is that, with Bush looking increasingly vulnerable, Dean just might take the presidency and put HRC's presidential ambitions on hold for 8 years.
